What Is Minnesota Power Yoga:Minnesota Power Yoga is an organization changing lives by bringing yoga to the community as a way of life. We inspire people to fulfill their purpose of making a difference. Our tools and practices allow you to develop yourself and others as a leader in your own life.”

The mission behind MPY is “To educate, motivate, and inspire you to live your authentic self in optimal health and happiness.”

MPY offers multiple class formats including: Power Yoga, Power Yoga Basics, Yin and Y.O.D. or Yoga Of The Day.

What Is Y.O.D? “ YOD programming is designed to hit every aspect of your physical fitness, while creating mindfulness and awareness of your body. It incorporates strength, flexibility, balance, speed, power, endurance, agility, and coordination. Satisfying the needs that the world of physical fitness is in search of. This is the perfect compliment to physical fitness or your yoga practice. Feel your muscles burn during the workout, feel your mind and body at peace by the end of class.”

What To Expect: As always, arrive early and bring your mat, water bottle and towel with you when you come to class. The studio is on the 2nd floor of the building, so please be mindful of that and remember to remove your shoes before entering.

If you’re new to the space you will most definitely be greeted and given a tour of the facility upon entering so you don’t have to worry about finding a restroom or water fountain. Almost every single yoga studio I’ve been to just brings a sense of calmness and clarity and MPY is no different! Set up your mat {you will be instructed if you need to grab additional props} begin to let your mind clear and just settle in to the space.

My Take On Minnesota Power Yoga: I’ve only been here once {thus far} but can already tell you that COMMUNITY is a huge focus at this studio. Yogis come here not only to sweat, move, and breathe, but they come here to do all of that with their friends!  Friends who sweat together, stay together am I right?!

My first class here was because I too had been invited by a friend to try out YOD and I’m so happy that she reached out! I’m not going to lie, I totally expected YOD to be very similar to a yoga sculpt class because I couldn’t imagine anything else that involved flexibility, strength, agility, and more! However, what I experienced was nothing like sculpt, it was a format completely unlike any other {which is a rare find with all of the fitness studios out there}. I’ve had trouble describing the class to others when they ask, but here’s my best stab at it.

YOD starts out like a flow class, the middle is similar to a HIIT class and then it ends like a restore class. Now how you make all of this fit into 1 hour with amazing transitions between the different sections, I’m not sure. But, what I do know is that the instructors deserve a gold star {or 2} because they do it with complete elegance and make the class so enjoyable! I took the class on a Saturday morning and really can’t think of a better way to start off a weekend!
