Am I the only person who is really starting to feel the effects of winter sinking in? I have been eating fairly well, getting regular workouts in, drinking lots of water but somehow I’m starting to feel the inflammation creep in and the pant buckle tighten. My theory? a) this polar vortex we just experienced in the midwest left me craving nothing but comfort food aka ALL of the food and b) the cold, short days have limited my time outdoors and things that used to keep me active in the evenings; yard work, walking the dogs, etc. are rare occurrences lately.

And while I’m by no means complaining about packing on an extra 20lbs {because I absolutely have not}, I also know that this right now isn’t when I feel happiest or the most comfortable in my own skin so it’s time to reel it back in instead of letting winter take its toll. How am I going to {reel it in} you ask? By making these few minor changes to my current nutrition//lifestyle I know that I will be right where I want to be come the time we hop on a plane to Jamaica in <30 days --- WHATTT?!

  1. Eliminate alcohol

  2. Eliminate added sugars

  3. Limit processed foods

  4. Drink more water

  5. Take my immunity boosting shots at least 1x/day

Essentially what this boils down to is this; I have one final pre wedding celebration w/ my family this weekend (which I plan to fully enjoy) and then come next week, you can find me participating in a 23-25 day sugar detox. This extended version of the 21-Day Sugar Detox {a common practice in my yearly nutrition-life} is meant to act as a reset for my body and mind. For me, it works to break poor behaviors such as snacking after dinner, adding sugar to unnecessary foods and most importantly to reset my palate and eliminate sugar cravings all together. Couple this program with my current workout/teaching regimen, drinking more water, taking a daily immunity boosting shot and there’s no doubt that a few weeks from today, I’ll be feeling 100% myself.

But where did these miracle shots come from? Back when I was feeling under the weather and had no voice at all {only a few short weeks ago} I crafted up these shots as a hail mary means of getting my voice back and although I don’t think that it helped a ton in that department, what these shots did do was enough to keep me coming back for more; decreased bloating, increased energy levels, improved digestion, brightened skin, less cravings and so much more. IMMUNITY BOOSTING WELLNESS SHOTS

{Printable Recipe}

Makes: 1 quart

Ingredients:

  • 3 Lemons, juiced

  • 2 Turmeric Roots, peeled & chopped

  • 1 ½ c. Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 2 Tsp Ginger Root, shredded

  • Filtered Water

Methods:

  1. Add all ingredients to a mason jar {or other airtight container} then fill the remainder of the way with water & refrigerate overnight

  2. Using a fine mesh strainer, remove the excess turmeric and ginger root

  3. Store the liquid in your refrigerator up to 10 days

  4. Enjoy these shots w/ a water chaser both morning & night for a extra boost to your immune system and energy levels
